Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) are among a set of “place based” reforms that have emerged amidst growing frustration with the inability of prior approaches to significantly improve student achievement. Community schools “aim to build neighborhood-wide social capital, and position productive partnerships as an integral component to school and neighborhood improvements” (Green & Gooden, 2014, p. 931). Our critical conversation addresses to what extent FSCS may revitalize communities around schools and ensure successful urban school reform.
