The papers presented in this symposium provide four empirical studies of education reform in Detroit schools, varying by discipline, system level, and method. The discussant will facilitate an interactive conversation among the authors and the audience as we collectively unpack the complexities and possibilities in Detroit reform efforts from the perspective of school choice policy, teacher preparation, principal leadership, and student activism.
